September 3, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The neighboring European Union countries prevented 105 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus on September 2, according to Pozirk\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia reported 78 attempts at irregular entry, while Poland and Lithuania reported 14 and 13 such attempts, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland had recorded no migrant activity at its border with Belarus for five days. Lithuania has thwarted irregular crossings from Belarus for eight days in a row now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, the primary target of irregular migration from Belarus in recent months, has recorded attempted crossings for 162 consecutive days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many as 159 attempts at irregular entry were reportedly prevented in the first two days of September, including 123 into Latvia, 22 into Lithuania and 14 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of attempts at irregular border crossing decreased by more than half compared with the same period of 2025, when 329 cases were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors reported thwarting 12,330 irregular crossings since the start of 2026, including 10,558 into Latvia, 1,369 into Lithuania and 403 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
