The government has allocated 1.3 billion rubels (about $422 million), nearly 26 percent more than in the previous five-year period, as part of the Goal 99 ecology subprogram to bring the waste recycling rate to 99 percent, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan provides for the construction of seven recycling facilities, two sorting stations and two facilities using refuse-derived fuel (RDF) at a cement plant in the Mahilo\u016d region. It also includes 13 sites for composting organic waste and four waste-sorting centers in medium-sized and large cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program also calls for the reclamation of 12 solid waste landfills to prevent environmental pollution from waste, its decomposition or interactions with other materials, including landfills without a waterproofing layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Belarus recycled 2.3 million out of 4.7 million metric tons of waste with recycling rates increasing significantly over the past decade from 599,000 of 3.8 million metric tons in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus currently operates 10 waste sorting plants and 73 sorting lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
