September 4, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Yesterday, police were trained to suppress street protests in Baranavi\u010dy, Brest region, the local police authorities reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers trained in \u201ccontaining aggressive groups and detaining violators,\u201d said Siarhiej Bialkievi\u010d of the Brest Regional Executive Committee\u2019s internal affairs department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, police conducted similar exercises in Brest, Viciebsk, Maholo\u016d, the Hrodna and Minsk regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major drill involving internal troops and elite police units is taking place in northern Belarus. Participants are trained to repel a mock attack on the ministry\u2019s leadership and repel an attack by mock criminals attempting to cross the state border into Belarus in all-terrain vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police stepped up anti-riot and other drills after the 2020 post-election protests. Although demonstrations were largely peaceful, police used brutal force to disperse and arrest participants. Several protesters were killed, but their deaths have not been investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
