September 6,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong><\/em> Lithuania has reported detaining undocumented third-country nationals attempting to cross from Belarus for 10 days in a row, according to its State Border Guard Service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the longest spell of irregular migration activity at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border since early May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian border guards reported 151 attempts to enter the country irregularly from August 26 to September 4, following a relatively calm period from January 1 to August 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia has reported such incidents for 164 consecutive days since March 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, Latvia and Lithuania recorded 210 attempts to enter the EU irregularly from Belarus in the first four days of September, and 12,381 since the start of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people seeking to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, indicated that Minsk would no longer prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions imposed after the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland describe the migration crisis as a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
