September 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Kyiv is monitoring Russia\u2019s attempts to directly draw Belarus into its war against Ukraine, but there are currently no signs that Belarus is preparing to enter it, Oleh Ivashchenko, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine\u2019s defense ministry, said in an interview with Ukrinform<\/em> published on September 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We know that Moscow seeks to use the Belarusian territory and military resources to expand the geography of combat operations against Ukraine,” Ivashchenko said. “However, as of today, there are no signs of Belarus preparing to enter the war against Ukraine. The level of military threat to our state from the Belarusian direction is assessed as low.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Ukraine is concerned that Belarus has allowed relay systems for Russia\u2019s drone attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure to be deployed in its territory, Ivashchenko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine also notes the deployment of units of the 101st Missile Brigade of Russia\u2019s Armed Forces in the Belarusian territory, which is armed with the Oreshnik medium-range missile system, Ivashchenko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If this happened without Belarus\u2019 permission, Minsk no longer controls Russia’s activities in its own territory, he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early September, Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said that Moscow continues to put pressure on Belarus to force it to deploy its army for Russia\u2019s war. At the same time, there are no signs of a military buildup in the immediate vicinity of the Ukrainian border, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine in which the Belarusian authorities sided with the Kremlin, allowing Russian troops to attack Ukraine from Belarus on multiple occasions, supplying weapons to Moscow and providing other kinds of assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
