September 9<\/strong>, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Poland prevented 52 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus between September 1 and September 8, compared with seven in the same period last and 54 in all of August, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland recorded 38 irregular crossing attempts on September 7 and 8, including 24 on September 8 alone, the largest number since July 31, when 26 such attempts were reported.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The neighboring European Union countries reported preventing 346 attempts at irregular entry from Belarus in the first eight days of September, including 233 into Latvia and 61 into Lithuania. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many as 12,517 irregular crossings were reportedly prevented since the start of 2026, including 10,668 into Latvia, 1,408 into Lithuania and 441 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
