September 9, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Lithuania does not plan to ban bus services with Belarus and Russia, said the country’s Transport Minister Juras Taminskas on September 9 in Klaipeda, Delfi.lv<\/em> reported citing ELTA<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement comes in response to conservative lawmaker Arvydas Anu\u0161auskas\u2019s suggestion that Lithuania to follow the example of Latvia, which considers banning all bus services linking it with Belarus and Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe always keep our finger on the pulse and always calculate. And now we periodically assess it, but we will not make sudden moves,\u201d Taminskas is quoted as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, bus services between Lithuania and Belarus operate around 30 trips every day, serving about 3,000 passengers with every bus fully booked, according to Gintaras Nakutis, head of the Lithuanian Passenger Transport Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anu\u0161auskas argued that a ban on bus travel to and from Belarus and Russia is necessary to ensure security and stability in the region. He warned that if Lithuania refuses to join Latvia, it risks becoming a transit hub absorbing all suspended routes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
