September 10, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The neighboring European Union countries prevented 144 attempts by undocumented third-country foreigners to enter their territory from Belarus on September 9, more than on any other day since July 5, when 158 attempted crossings were reported, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia reported 97 attempts at irregular entry, while Poland and Lithuania reported 24 and 23 such attempts, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, the primary target of irregular migration from Belarus in recent months, has recorded attempted crossings for 169 consecutive days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many as 490 attempts at irregular entry were reportedly prevented in the first nine days of September, including 330 into Latvia, 84 into Lithuania and 76 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the number of attempts decreased sharply compared with the same period of 2025, when 1,199 cases were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors reported thwarting 12,661 irregular crossings since the start of 2026, including 10,765 into Latvia, 1,431 into Lithuania and 465 into Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people eager to cross into the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June 2021, the Belarusian government suspended a readmission agreement with the EU in response to sanctions that followed the forced landing of a Ryanair flight in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Latvia, Lithuania and Poland call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
