11 September, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Ten citizens of Belarus are facing suspended prison terms in Poland on a charge of illegally producing cigarettes, according to the Polish National Revenue Administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men stand accused of involvement in an \u201corganized criminal group\u201d that allegedly produced more than four million cigarettes worth around 4.2 million zlotys ($1.1 million) and stored 4.7 tons of tobacco and more than 12 tons of raw materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor demanded one year in prison with three years\u2019 suspension and fines totaling 29,000 z\u0142otys ($7,800) for each defendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the case file, investigators discovered the fully equipped plant in a village in the Pomeranian province in March 2026, with counterfeit Philip Morris cigarettes under its roof. The Belarusians reportedly claimed that they had been lured to the plant with online ads offering between 100 and 200 z\u0142otys (between $27 and $54) a day for manual labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After arriving in Warsaw, they were allegedly picked up by a driver and taken to the factory, with some saying that they had been prevented them from following the route. The workers were allegedly told to hand over their phones, wear taped\u2011over glasses and stay inside the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The men said that the factory windows were secured and the site was locked from the outside. However, they reported no violence, threats, or confiscation of passports, and stated that they had worked voluntarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
