September 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A Belarusian national suspected of plotting a drone attack at Leipzig Airport last month may be linked to another sabotage incident that occurred in 2024 in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Poland, Welt am Sonntag<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The publication referred to previously unpublished investigative materials and interviews with unnamed high-ranking security officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attempted attack in Leipzig occurred on the night between August 4 and 5, with airport staff discovering an explosives-laden drone inside a restricted area of the airport, close to a Ukrainian Antonov An 124 cargo aircraft used to transport weapons and ammunition for Ukraine\u2019s military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, German media reported that a suspected perpetrator of a failed drone bomb attack at Leipzig Airport was identified as a Belarusian man who had entered the European Union on an Italian visa issued in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources told Welt am Sonntag<\/em> that Belarusian Andrej K. and Russian Oleg L., allegedly linked to the Russian military intelligence are the principal suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Evidence found at the scene in Leipzig included fragments of a glove containing traces of DNA, Welt am Sonntag said, noting that the same DNA traces had previously been found in Finland and Lithuania. In both countries, Andrej K. appears in law enforcement records in connection with criminal offenses. In Finland, in particular, he is a defendant in a theft case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish authorities also link K. to a fire at a Leroy Merlin store in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a in summer 2024, which prosecutors classified as an act of sabotage. Polish investigators believe the trail leads to Russia in this case as well. K.\u2019s alleged involvement in the Leipzig attack is seen as further evidence that the operations were coordinated by Russian entities, the report noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both suspects in the Leipzig drone attack reportedly fled the European Union after the incident, beyond the reach of investigators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Germany accused the Kremlin of orchestrating the attack and announced that it would close Russia\u2019s last remaining consulate in Bonn and the Russian House cultural center in Berlin. Moscow denied all accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
