September 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> It is necessary to ensure that police officers are allowed to take decisions \u201cunder special conditions\u201d without a prosecutorial warrant, Interior Minister Ivan Kubrako\u016d said during a police command staff exercise in the Homiel region on September 23. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kubrako\u016d emphasized the need for preventive measures to ensure that working people are not \u201cdrawn into destructive movements.\u201d He stressed that \u201cprovocations\u201d should be aborted immediately. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Kubrako\u016d, this is the seventh such exercise conducted in Belarus.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a drill in Mahilo\u016d on May 27, Ivan Kubrako\u016d said that police were being trained to prevent a repeat of the 2020 protests, a reference to the massive peaceful demonstrations against alleged fraud in the presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kubrako\u016d stressed that police officers should not hesitate to use firearms \u201cif someone is trying to commit mayhem\u201d against security forces deployed to suppress riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during an anti-riot \u201ccommand staff exercise\u201d in the Minsk region on August 26,  Kubrako\u016d warned, that the region is home to many major enterprises and other organizations that could become a target for \u201cdestructive forces.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the 2020 post-election protests were largely peaceful, police used brutal force to disperse them and arrest participants. Several protesters were killed, but their deaths have not been investigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
