September 24, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> More than 22,000 children spent summer vacations in military-patriotic camps this year, said a high-ranking ideology official at a news conference in Minsk on September 24. Most of them are socially vulnerable children, according to Alaksandar Caj, of the National Center for Children\u2019s Recuperation and Health Resort Treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opponents of the government expressed concern that children at military-patriotic camps are subjected to pro-Russian indoctrination and receive military instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caj said that children in the camps were told stories about Belarusian statesmen, athletes and the leaders of public associations and taught \u201cto achieve success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children were also lectured on Belarus\u2019 achievements and taken to big enterprises and World War II monuments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, more than 400,000 children spent vacations in summer camps this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
