September 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The opposition Coordination Council has set up a commission to investigate crimes allegedly committed by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials, the council\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five factions supported the decision, including the coalition of Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka\u2019s team and the movement For Freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commission will be responsible for collecting, recording and preserving evidence; documenting the facts of crimes and their circumstances; preparing materials and recommendations for future transitional justice mechanisms. Alaksandar Rakicki will chair the commission, while Michai\u0142 Kiryliuk will serve as his deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, the team of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja suggested setting up \u201chybrid tribunals\u201d for prosecuting the highest-profile cases of politically-motivated persecution in Belarus. Perpetrators would stand trial before Belarusian courts within the framework of \u201cinternational mechanisms\u201d after the collapse of the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
