September 29, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Americans should be invited to join the construction of a nitrogen plant in Belarus, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said on Tuesday while meeting with the governor of Russia\u2019s Ulyanovsk province, Aleksei Russkikh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe agreed with Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin] that [Russia\u2019s natural gas monopoly] Gazprom will join the implementation of the nitrogen plant project,\u201d \u0141uka\u0161enka was quoted as saying by his press office. \u201cWe should make an offer to the Americans. They want fertilizers, including nitrogen fertilizers, so please, let\u2019s build it together. We have already selected a site, all the infrastructure is in place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the United States refuses, Belarus will build the plant with Gazprom and then sell the finished products together with the Russians, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka has voiced similar proposals on several occasions over the last year. Speaking at the All-Belarusian People\u2019s Assembly in December 2025, the Belarusian ruler said that he had offered Americans to buy a potash deposit near the village of Nie\u017eyn in the Luba\u0144 district, Minsk region, for $3 billion. In March 2026, he raised the subject again during a meeting with journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Washington say that they are discussing a \u201cgrand deal\u201d that would meet the interests of both countries. On September 21, US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the United States is \u201cworking on a massive deal with respect to the purchase of potash from Belarus.\u201d \u201cThe pricing would be for substantially less than we are currently paying to Canada, very good news for our Farmers and Ranchers,\u201d the post said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier that day, \u0141uka\u0161enka said that Belarus cannot supply large volumes of potash fertilizers to the United States because its output has already been pledged to other countries under contracts for 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
