October 1, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus counts on the normalization of relations with the United States and views the release of prisoners as \u201cminimum costs\u201d associated with solving more serious economic problems, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d told Russia\u2019s TASS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing the imprisonment of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s opponents as one of the \u201cirritants\u201d in bilateral relations, Ry\u017eanko\u016d said that \u0141uka\u0161enka \u201cgenerally doesn\u2019t mind\u201d Washington\u2019s attempts to \u201cpull them out little by little.\u201d He claimed that some of the former prisoners have \u201creconsidered their behavior\u201d or have served much of their terms and realized that \u201cit\u2019s better not get into prison again.\u201d He expressed confidence that \u201cour people will understand\u201d such a policy, considering that it helps Minsk mend fences with the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk\u2019s expectation in dealings with Washington if that it will not interfere in Belarus\u2019 domestic affairs and the two countries will cooperate on equal terms, including in the political, trade and economic spheres, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d said that Belarus is ready to restore communication channels and mutual notification mechanisms with NATO member states if they show an interest in such reengagement. He emphasized the importance of verification inspections, early warning and transparency for reducing the risk of military incidents and increasing \u201cpredictability.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d raised the issue of potash exports, noting that Belarus is ready to sell the fertilizer to all customers, with consideration for the \u201cinterest of closest allies\u201d and buyers\u2019 solvency. He ruled out any \u201csteps detrimental to ally relations\u201d and complained about Washington\u2019s freeze on funds for potash supplied to the United States before 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d repeated the message that Belarus should cooperate with Russia to ensure their \u201ctechnological independence\u201d from the West and urged the United Nations to respond to new \u201cglobal challenges\u201d more promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d compared New York, which hosted UN General Assembly events earlier this month, to Moscow but described the Russian capital city as more attractive because of its atmosphere and \u201cSlavic spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eankou spent part of his summer vacation this year in North Korea, with visits to Pyongyang as well as Wonsan and the Kalma resort. He posted his holiday photographs, praising North Korea as a \u201cvery colorful and traditional\u201d country where \u201ceverything is neat, well\u2011kept, everything works.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
