October 2, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The number of Belarus-based mobile relay systems for Russian drone strikes on Ukraine has significantly increased, Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, told Ukraine\u2019s Channel 24<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Demchenko, Russia is once again using relay systems, which are enabled for a while and then shut down, to amplify the radio signal for Shakhed and Geran drones heading for western Ukraine and the border with Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that it is mobile relay systems that have been used much more actively since recently, as Belarus fears that Ukraine will be able to track down stationary equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demchenko said that while not increasing troop numbers at the border with Ukraine for fear of \u201csevere losses,\u201d Belarus has opted for facilitating Russia\u2019s attacks by hosting drone control relay systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 17, Ukrainian monitoring group \u0454Radar reported that four relay systems used to control Russian jet-powered drones had been detected in Belarus since the previous week, all located in the Homie\u013a region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, the systems are based near Chojniki, Dzierbinka and Buda-Safije\u016dka in the Lel\u010dycy district and near Machnavi\u010dy in the Mazyr district, the report said. They have \u201csignificantly increased the flight range of the drones, allowing them to reach the border with Poland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to \u0454Radar, this network made it possible for Russia to attack a Warsaw-bound Ukrainian train and filling stations near the Polish border on September 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report echoed remarks by Andriy Demchenko who said on September 14 that Belarus-based relay stations had facilitated a Russian drone strike on a passenger train near the Yahodyn crossing at the Ukrainian\u2011Polish border<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Russian drone hit the train at the Yahodyn railroad station on September 13 minutes after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and top European security officials had passed through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No casualties were reported after the strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave the Belarusian authorities one week to dismantle four drone-control relay systems allegedly used to facilitate Russian attacks on Ukraine. \u201cIf he [Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka] does not shut them down, we will shut down everything within a week. Either they will do it, or we will,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 24, Zelensky said the relay systems had suspended operations. He followed up with additional demands, saying Belarus should stop developing an \u201caggressive infrastructure\u201d of roads and storage facilities for ammunition, fuel and lubricants near the Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, Ukrainian officials have reported only occasional, and in some cases unconfirmed, instances of relay systems being used in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
