October 2, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian human rights defenders have declared 12 more individuals as political prisoners, taking their total to 888, according to a statement posted on the Viasna Human Rights Center\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent additions include imprisoned D\u017amitryj Rudako\u016d, Arciom Mierkiel and Anatol Mindzijara\u016d. The other individuals are Maksim Siamien\u010danka, \u017danna Jasku\u0142d, Vital Dziamid\u010dyk, Pavie\u0142 Ba\u017eko, Andrej A\u016dsia\u0144nika\u016d, Ilja Ha\u0142yhin, Vital Ha\u0142ava\u010d, Ja\u016dhien Dziaruno\u016d and Andrej Ci\u0161ko\u016d. They are identified as either serving prison terms or staying in pretrial detention centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dziamid\u010dyk, born in Hrodna in 1974, holds a Belarusian and a Czech citizenship. He moved to the Czech Republic in 2006 and was arrested in June 2026 after coming to Belarus to visit his ailing mother. He was charged with facilitating \u201cextremism\u201d for allegedly making donations for pro-democracy causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individuals faced charges ranging from inciting hatred and insulting officials to participating in riots and facilitating \u201cextremism.\u201d The Viasna Human Rights Center, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, Lawtrend, Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Barys Zvozska\u016d Human Rights House, and Human Constanta signed the declaration, demanding the immediate release of all political prisoners and an end to politically motivated persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
