October 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Bie\u0142naftachim, Belarus\u2019 state petrochemical giant, has announced another increase in fuel prices from October 7 following a similar increase on September 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the hikes, the price of gasoline and diesel fuel will remain below $1 per liter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prices will be set at 2.62 rubels ($0.87) for one liter of AI-92; 2.72 rubels for AI-95; 2.94 rubels for AI-98; and 2.72 rubels for a liter of diesel fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus posted the second-lowest motor fuel prices in the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in June, according to Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> analysis of the Eurasian Economic Commission\u2019s data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142naftachim has avoided steeper increases since the 2010s after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka accused it of triggering public unrest with a sharp rise in fuel prices. Instead, it raises fuel prices in smaller increments but more frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuel prices rose by four kopecks on March 28, three kopecks on April 4 and one kopeck in each of the summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country has benefited from supplies of cheap Russian oil, but its government has made considerable economic, political and military concessions in return that have undermined its independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
