October 6, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d has noted a \u201cresurgence of interest in Belarus on the part of key European Union countries\u201d in an interview with Russia\u2019s RIA Novosti<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past six years, these countries have been \u201chiding\u201d from Minsk \u201cin every corner, trying to save face politically,\u201d the foreign ministry\u2019s press office quoted the diplomat as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU limited all contacts with Minsk after the 2020 political crisis in Belarus, which negatively affected cooperation at the border and on security issues, as well as trade, economic, political and even humanitarian spheres, Ry\u017eanko\u016d complained. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn 2020, just as in 2022, it was easy to label the entire Belarusian leadership\u2026 but how do you get out of that afterwards? How do you explain to your voters why there was a policy of isolation for six years, and now you\u2019re going to talk to these \u2018servants of the dictator\u2019?\u201d the official noted. \u201cNow they\u2019re taking these steps. We\u2019re not actually opposed to them.\u201d Not all current contacts are public, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur partners are very sensitive about these matters. They\u2019re very afraid that someone will find out that we\u2019ve met with someone,\u201d the diplomat said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d also recalled his recent high-level contacts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, describing his meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Rados\u0142aw Sikorski as \u201cdecisive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
