The married couple lead Dissidentby, a human rights group that documents politically motivated persecution in Belarus and provides support to its victims.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around 2,500 people have been convicted of extremist crimes over a year and a half, Prosecutor General D\u017amitryj Hara said on October 7. \u201cSpecial\u201d criminal proceedings have been instituted against individuals who have fled Belarus, with criminal cases against 150 such persons referred to courts since 2022, Hara said.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Belarus\u2019 information ministry has added 13 books to its list of \u201cpublications whose dissemination can cause damage to national interests.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At least 10 political prisoners at one of Belarus\u2019 correctional institutions were not freed on September 16 following talks between Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and US Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale despite preparations made for their release. In particular, prison officials gave back the documents of some of the prisoners and told them to pack their bags. Later they were told that \u201cthere will be no pardoning.\u201d The announcement came as a heavy blow to those individuals, with some of them needing medical assistance, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of documented political prisoners in Belarus decreased by two to 884,\u00a0the\u00a0Viasna\u00a0Human Rights Center\u00a0reported.
