October 12, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus could expand trade in wood products with the neighboring European Union countries, where supplies are currently scarce, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has said during a working tour of the Minsk district, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFirewood in Poland, and in Lithuania, too, has gotten more expensive, [this is true] for all our neighbors,\u201d it quoted him as saying. \u201cJust buy [our] firewood, pellets and other products at a reasonable price. [But] they\u2019re resisting. Well, if they don\u2019t want to take it, they don\u2019t have to. We won\u2019t be able to sell it to them tomorrow since we\u2019ve started switching to this firewood and pellets on a massive scale ourselves. It\u2019s a good technology. . . We\u2019ll need this firewood and these pellets ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU revoked Belarus\u2019 pellet certification and banned all Belarusian wood imports in 2022, following the launch of Russia\u2019s full-scale war on Ukraine, in which the Belarusian authorities supported the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, the Belarusian Investigative Center (BIC) detailed how Belarus\u2019 once-promising wood pellet industry has fallen into a crisis after EU sanctions cut it off the most lucrative market despite attempts at circumvention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the United States officially lifted sanctions against the Bie\u0142lesbumpram woodworking giant after Minsk freed 25 designated political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
