October 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Committee for State Security (KGB) has added nine individuals to its list of \u201cpersons involved in terrorist activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new additions are Juryj Makita\u016d, Kry\u015bcina Stankievi\u010d, Michai\u0142 \u010cuprynski, Mika\u0142aj Bojka, Natalla Nikicina, convicted of involvement in a \u201cterrorist\u201d organization, and Eduard Kurland\u010dyk, Julija Nikicina, Andrej Ka\u0161anski, and Arciom Litvinka, convicted of calling for sanctions or \u201cother actions aimed at damaging national interests,\u201d among other charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 14, the Minsk City Court imposed lengthy prison sentences in absentia on Makita\u016d, Stankievi\u010d, \u010cuprynski, Bojka, and Natalla Nikicina, who are former members of the pro-Ukrainian Kastu\u015b Kalino\u016dski Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 23, Ka\u0161anski was sentenced in absentia to five years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cases of Julija Nikicina and Andrej Ka\u0161anski had not been reported before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the official \u201cterrorist\u201d list features 1,477 names, roughly half of them citizens of Belarus, according to the Viasna Human Rights Center. Most of the Belarusians were convicted on charges widely seen as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The terrorist designation requires banks to freeze the designated persons\u2019 accounts. The designees cannot conduct any wireless cash transactions through banks and the post office. They cannot receive money transfers in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
