October 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Donald Trump should not decide who will be Ukraine\u2019s president, but he is right that the country needs elections, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told reporters on Friday, commenting on the US president\u2019s remark that Ukraine should get a new leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka, who has ruled Belarus since 1994, told reporters that Volodymyr Zelensky should limit himself to one presidential term. \u201cTrump is right that promises should be kept, but Trump should not dictate what Ukraine should do,\u201d he said, adding that Ukraine\u2019s president would be chosen by its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka reiterated his support for Trump\u2019s presidency, stressing that he \u201ccan still accomplish a lot\u201d during his time in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka linked Washington\u2019s pressure on Kyiv to Ukraine\u2019s dependence on US aid, including intelligence support and weapons supplies. He urged other countries not to fall into dependence on major powers and held up Belarus\u2019 relations with Russia as an example of equal partnership. \u201cWe are friends with Russia, and we do our best for Russia to see us as valuable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka criticized the US policy toward Iran, stating that Washington\u2019s military might does not make it invincible. \u201cThe United States is mistaken if it believes there are no forces in the world capable of stopping it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
