October 22, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus will send another shipment of potash fertilizers to the United States, Valancin Rybako\u016d, Belarus\u2019 permanent representative to the United Nations, has said after meeting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka in Minsk today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A vessel laden with the first US-bound shipment of Belarusian potash in four years left Russia\u2019s Bronka port in St. Petersburg on September 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka said that Belarus cannot supply large volumes of potash fertilizers to the US because its output had already been contracted for 2026. Analysts doubt that Belarus can rapidly scale up its exports to the US in the near future or compete with Canadian prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Washington have been discussing potash exports to the US as part of their talks that have resulted in the release of hundreds of Belarusian political prisoners and the removal of some US sanctions against Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian state-run media have also reported that Minsk expects further visits by US delegations, although Rybako\u016d gave no possible dates. \u201cThe possibility of new visits is being discussed,\u201d he said, adding that the interest in continuing negotiations was \u201cmutual.\u201d Belarus \u201cpresents a certain interest\u201d to the US, despite not being the richest, most powerful or largest country, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk aims to achieve the lifting of sanctions, Rybako\u016d noted. \u201cThe process is underway. Certain positive results have been achieved,\u201d he said. \u201cI am not ready to specify any timeframe, because the negotiation process is complex. Nevertheless, so far everything is developing in the direction that interests us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat made this statement after yesterday, the US Treasury Department\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) lifted sanctions on Andrej Rybako\u016d, director general of Belarusian potash giant Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington dropped sanctions against Belarusian Potash Company, Bie\u0142aru\u015bkalij and its Kyiv-based subsidiary Agrorozkvit following the liberation of 250 political prisoners by Minsk in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the European Union and Lithuania are maintaining a ban on the transit of Belarusian potash, imposed in early 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
