October 29, Pozirk. Biełavija (Belavia) incurs huge losses as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine, in particular, Ukrainian drone attacks on facilities in Russia, according to Kaciaryna Radzišeŭskaja, head of the national airline’s sales department.

Asked by reporters on Thursday about the financial toll of Ukrainian drone attacks, which frequently force Russian airports to suspend operations, Radzišeŭskaja replied that while it is difficult to estimate Biełavija, “this is a huge amount.”

Every flight and every situation is completely different, Radzišeŭskaja said. For example, an aircraft may spend a long time in a holding pattern, burning fuel, or it may stay grounded at an airport for a long time waiting for departure, she said. A flight may simply, unfortunately, be turned back, and the captain may decide to return to the base airport or divert to another one, with all the resulting consequences, including financial ones, she added.

Radzišeŭskaja noted that airport closures in Russia have become more frequent in the second half of 2026. She claimed that the airline is absorbing all the costs of these disruptions instead of passing them on to the passengers.
