Your life gives me hope that Belarusians, too, will come home to a free country. Thank you for standing with our people,\u201d the politician said on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in Kaunas, Adamkus moved to Germany in October 1944 and emigrated to the United States in 1949.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was elected president of Lithuania in 1998. After losing his 2002 re-election bid to Rolandas Paksas, Adamkus returned to office in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late October, media reported that Adamkus had been discharged from hospital after successful surgery and would continue his recovery at home. Earlier this year, he underwent procedures to restore blood circulation in his legs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 3, Pozirk.
