{"id":210405,"date":"2026-11-04T12:15:11","date_gmt":"2026-11-04T09:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210405\/"},"modified":"2026-11-04T12:15:13","modified_gmt":"2026-11-04T09:15:13","slug":"belarus-must-be-on-agenda-of-ukraine-peace-talks-cichanouskaja-says","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210405\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus must be on agenda of Ukraine peace talks, Cichano\u016dskaja says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 4, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus must be on the agenda of Ukraine peace talks, to ensure that Russia withdraws not only from Ukraine, but also from Belarus, including its troops and nuclear weapons, \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja said at the Berlin Belarus Future Forum on November 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cichano\u016dskaja stressed \u201ca strong Ukraine and a weakened Russia would open a window of opportunity for Belarus\u201d and called on the West to \u201cgive Ukraine everything it needs,\u201d not only to defend itself, but also to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cichano\u016dskaja said that Belarus must be \u201cpart of Europe\u2019s grand strategy towards Eastern Europe\u201d and urged European partners to prepare a \u201cpractical roadmap\u201d for integrating Belarus into the European community after democratic transition and, in the meantime, to be issuing visas, supporting mobility programs, education, culture, and other forms of cooperation that \u201ckeep Belarusians connected to Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cichano\u016dskaja expressed gratitude to Germany for \u201ctremendous\u201d support since 2020, including for Belarusian students, researchers, artists, journalists, human rights defenders, and victims of repression, and noted that \u201cthousands of Belarusians\u201d have found opportunities to continue their studies and work in Germany. She thanked Germany for helping preserve Belarusian civil society, independent media, and culture \u201cwhile Lukashenka [\u0141uka\u0161enka] was trying to destroy them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cichano\u016dskaja thanked the Bundestag and human rights watchdog Libereco for helping Belarusian pro-democracy forces put the issue of political prisoners \u201chigh on Europe\u2019s agenda.\u201d \u201cToday, it is at the heart of almost every discussion about Belarus,\u201d she said. She acknowledged the US diplomatic efforts to secure freedom for Belarusian political prisoners but also noted the importance of \u201cpressure and sanctions\u201d and stressed that Belarus still has around 900 political prisoners. \u201cWe must keep fighting for their release,\u201d she said. \u201cBut more importantly, we need to end the system that puts people in prison in the first place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Berlin Belarus Future Forum had been organized by the Heinrich B\u00f6ll Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in partnership with Belarusian community association RAZAM, Libereco and Science at Risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants include Belarus\u2019 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ale\u015b Bialacki and prominent opposition activist Maryja Kale\u015bnikava, both former political prisoners, as well as representatives of Germany\u2019s government and parliament, politicians and experts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 4, Pozirk.
