November 5, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarus will benefit from the power shift in Washington caused by Thursday\u2019s midterm elections, with Vladimir Putin and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka now having less time make a deal with the incumbent US administration, opposition politician Anatol Labied\u017aka told Pozirk.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Labied\u017aka, who advises Belarusian pro-democracy leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja on constitutional reform and parliamentary cooperation, noted that the bipartisan parliamentary groups on cooperation with Belarus will remain in both chambers of the US Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four members of the Friends of Belarus Caucus in the House of Representatives who stood for reelection have kept their seats, Labied\u017aka said. The Senate group, which shrank to eight members after the death of Lindsey Graham in July 2026, will also continue to exist, given that four of its members have been reelected, while the outcome of the race in Alaska still uncertain, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Labied\u017aka, Cichano\u016dskaja\u2019s team is preparing to extend congratulations to the winners of the elections and expand the Belarus group in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The November 3 US midterm elections delivered a sweeping victory for the Democrats, who gained control of both chambers of the Congress, winning at least 54-44 in the Senate, with two races still undecided, and at least 231-141 in the House. The results dealt a major blow to President Donald Trump and the Republicans, with the Democrats making significant gains in traditionally Republican strongholds amid voter dissatisfaction over the economy, the cost of living and the war with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
