{"id":210753,"date":"2026-11-06T12:11:32","date_gmt":"2026-11-06T09:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210753\/"},"modified":"2026-11-06T12:26:44","modified_gmt":"2026-11-06T09:26:44","slug":"new-politically-motivated-conviction-trials-arrests-reported-in-belarus","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/210753\/","title":{"rendered":"New politically motivated conviction, trials, arrests reported in Belarus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>November 6, <em>Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Sources in Belarus reported a new prison sentence, as well as new trials, arrests and \u201cextremist\u201d designations and other instances of politically motivated persecution between November 3 and November 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is <em>Pozirk\u2019s<\/em> recap:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A district judge in Vilejka, Minsk region, has sentenced Roman Catholic priest Anatol Parachnievi\u010d to three years in prison after the charges against him had been downgraded from high treason to \u201cinsulting authorities and extremism.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Art manager Aleh \u0141ary\u010da\u016d is on trial for associating with an \u201cextremist group\u201d and financing \u201cextremism.\u201d An ambulance had to be called for him after he became unwell in the courtroom. Aleh suffers from diabetes, has open ulcers on his legs and an elevated temperature and may develop gangrene, his wife wrote on Facebook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A judge of the Masko\u016dski District Court in Minsk on November 13 will start hearing a case against Juryj Bie\u0142avusa\u016d, a former Belarusian volunteer who fought for Ukraine in 2022. The man has been charged in absentia with mercenary service in a foreign armed conflict, according to the Viasna Human Rights Center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Five residents of different regions of Belarus, aged between 36 and 66, have been arrested over negative online comments about top government officials and Minsk police officers, the interior ministry reported. \u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exiled journalist Kaciaryna Andrejeva (Bachva\u0142ava), freed in March as part of Washington\u2019s deal with Minsk, reported that Belarusian authorities had opened a new criminal case against her. Her parents in Belarus were ordered to visit the Investigative Committee on November 5.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The information ministry has added four Telegram and Facebook accounts, a website and a logo of the Ukrainian army\u2019s Belarusian volunteer drone\u00a0unit called Vola (Freedom) to the ministry\u2019s list of \u201cextremist content.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At least 75 Belarusian military personnel have faced politically-motivated criminal persecution since 2020, with 33 still held behind bars, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ten Lutheran communities, or almost half of those in existence in Belarus as of early 2014 have been dissolved as part of Belarusian authorities\u2019 re-registration campaign, Chry\u015bcijanskaja vizija reported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As many as 4,860 people have been granted political prisoner status in the six years since the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, the Viasna Human Rights Center says in its October report. Human rights defenders had identified 886 political prisoners as of October 31, including 111 women. Authorities have concealed data about some 670 people convicted for political motives over the last year and a half, of 27 percent of the total number. Forty-three people were recognized as political prisoners in October. As many of 3,991 people, including 792 women, had the status of former political prisoners. At least 172 political prisoners are in a particularly vulnerable situation because of the state of their health, age or confinement conditions, the report said.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of documented political prisoners in Belarus decreased by three to 884, the Viasna Human Rights Center reported.
