{"id":2487,"date":"2023-08-22T15:57:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-22T12:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=2487"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"eu-stops-163-illegal-migrants-at-belarus-border-2","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/2487\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops 163 illegal migrants at Belarus border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 22,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/strong>The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 163 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">recorded<\/a>&nbsp;14 illegal attempts to cross the border on August 21, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 107 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1693874828447535412\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;42 foreigners, including nationals of India, Iraq and Iran, tried to illegally enter from Belarus. Border guards arrested one Belarusian and one Pole for complicity in illegal migration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 27,461 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 19,752 attempts via Poland, 6,153 via Latvia and 1,556 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 3,187 times in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPN&#8217;s analysis of daily stats indicated growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 3,701 in June and 5,054 in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border.
