{"id":2515,"date":"2023-08-21T12:02:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T09:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=2515"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"eu-stops-118-illegal-migrants-at-belarus-border","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/2515\/","title":{"rendered":"EU stops 118 illegal migrants at Belarus border"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 21,&nbsp;<em>BPN<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/strong>The European Union (EU) has not allowed at least 118 migrants to enter illegally from Belarus over the past day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/neileistu-neteisetu-migrantu-statistika\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">recorded<\/a>&nbsp;two illegal attempts to cross the border on August 20, while their Latvian colleagues thwarted 31 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Polish Border Guard&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Straz_Graniczna\/status\/1693507166026481779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a>&nbsp;85 foreigners, including nationals of Algeria, Afghanistan, Guinea, India and Syria, tried to illegally enter from Belarus. Border guards arrested four persons from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine for complicity in illegal migration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start of 2023, the EU has recorded at least 27,298 attempts by illegal migrants to enter its territory from Belarus, with 19,710 attempts via Poland, 6,046 via Latvia and 1,542 via Lithuania. Illegal migrants attempted to cross the Belarusian-EU border as many as 3,024 times in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BPN&#8217;s analysis of daily stats indicated growing tension at the Belarusian-EU border, with Poland being the prime target. Illegal border crossing attempts rose from 1,989 in January and 1,970 in February to 3,701 in June and 5,054 in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migration crisis at the Belarusian-EU border dates back to the spring of 2021. It escalated in November 2021, with thousands of migrants setting up a camp near the Polish border.
