September 20,\u00a0Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI) supports countries in need and helps eradicate poverty, Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik has told participants at the meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk welcomed the launch of the GDI in 2021 and “seeks to take advantage” of its benefits, he added, noting that China has repeatedly surprised the world with its successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world was able to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 thank to China’s effort to help 800 million people out of poverty, the foreign ministry’s press office reported citing Alejnik as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus joined the GDI Group of Friends and is confident that the China-led initiative will help achieve sustainable development goals, Alejnik said. The GDI may establish a multipolar world and eliminate “illegal unilateral coercive measures” that promote further poverty, endanger food security and affect many other sustainable goals, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Chinese leader Xi Jinping unveiled the GDI with a focus on cooperation in eight areas, including poverty alleviation, food security, healthcare, climate change, and the digital economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
