September 26,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0At least 375 peaceful gatherings took place in 2022, according to a study by the Viasna Human Rights Center presented by\u00a0Natalla Sacunkievi\u010d at the International Congress of Belarusian Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peaceful assemblies in the country have become less frequent and their format has changed because of the scale of political repression, Viasna quoted her as saying. Instead of holding massive marches or rallies with flags and placards, Belarusians have begun to hold snap protests called photo and video pickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna also registered an increase in the number of pro-government rallies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a meeting with UN Special Rapporteur Cl\u00e9ment Nyaletsossi Voule in May, Sacunkievi\u010d said that Viasna’s last field observation of a demonstration was on August 9, 2020, the main day of voting in the presidential election, after which monitoring continued online for security reasons.
