September 22,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Belarus cannot be an accomplice to the Russian aggression and at the same time pretend to help Ukrainian children, the European Union Delegation in Belarus has\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0after the country’s foreign ministry briefed it on recuperation programs for\u00a0Ukrainian children\u00a0from Russian-occupied territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement posted on Facebook, the mission condemned Belarus for snubbing Ukraine by not inviting its diplomats to the briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU also said that the International Criminal Court (ICC) was following the case. “It is of utmost importance to ensure accountability for the war crime of forcible deportation of children from Ukraine by Russia to Russia and Belarus,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bloc called on Moscow and Minsk to “immediately ensure” the safe return of displaced children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The deportation of Ukrainian children must stop. Belarus must stop its support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Belarus’s actions are deplorable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus was represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Juryj Ambrazievi\u010d and Paralympian Alaksiej Ta\u0142aj, whose foundation organizes the transfers of children to Belarus. The two defended the recuperation programs as lawful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 17, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Children’s Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for the alleged war crime of unlawful deportation of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Belarusian opposition group called National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM) prepared a report and, on June 27, said that it submitted the “evidence of war crimes” to the ICC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 18, the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee urged the ICC to issue an arrest warrant for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine’s permanent representative to the United Nations, told the UN Security Council on July 27 that more than 3,000 Ukrainian children had been taken to Belarus from the occupied regions of Donbas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
