September 22,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov has called Poland “quite an aggressive country” that “does not shy away from subversive activities and interference in the internal affairs” of other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Poland is really not the most comfortable neighbor for our Belarusian comrades,” he told reporters in Moscow, as quoted by TASS<\/em>. Russia and Belarus “take into account the threats” that may come from it and continue to develop a joint security concept, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told the governor of Russia’s Krasnodar krai that Minsk and Moscow were particularly worried about Poland and the United States behind it, which “have decided to ruin everything there is here, first of all the European Union.” He also noted that Belarus paid considerable attention to the defense sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 14, after a meeting in Warsaw with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda, Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da said his country would like to continue military exercises with Poland and focus on the defense of the Suwa\u0142ki Gap, a narrow section of Polish and Lithuanian territories separating Belarus from Russia’s exclave of Kaliningrad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, Warsaw sent additional troops to the border with Belarus and strengthened the defense of the Suwalki Gap and so-called Brest Gate, a strategic Belarusian-Polish borderland, citing potential provocative acts by Belarus-stationed Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
