September 21,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security (DANS) has said that two Belarusian nationals and a Russian were\u00a0being expelled from the country and banned from its residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The punishment was related to “their activities against the national security and interests of the Republic of Bulgaria.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three foreigners reportedly acted in line with Russia’s “hybrid strategy” to influence social and political developments in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariya Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, identified them as the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia, Archimandrite Vassian (Nikolay Zmeyev), as well as Archpriest Yevgeniy and a member of the church staff. DANS had named the suspects only as N.Z., Ye.P. and V.B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the official portal of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Belarusian Exarchate, in November 2020, a Minsk cleric, Archpriest Ja\u016dhien Pavial\u010duk (Rus.: Yevgeniy Pavelchuk), was appointed secretary of the patriarchate’s office in Bulgaria. He may be the Ye.P. from the DANS report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

V.B. may stand for a certain U\u0142adzimir Ba\u0144ko (Vladimir Bonko). On his Facebook page, he indicated the Russian Orthodox Church in Sofia as his place of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
