{"id":3106,"date":"2023-09-28T15:06:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T12:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=3106"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"exiled-civil-society-organizations-in-precarious-conditions-report","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/3106\/","title":{"rendered":"Exiled civil society organizations in precarious conditions \u2013 report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>September 28,\u00a0<em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Relocated civil society organizations (CSOs) are still facing threats from Belarusian authorities, says a recent Lawtrend report compiled in cooperation with the OEEC, a non-profit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, threats of reprisals against relocated activists increased with the introduction of trials in absentia, deprivation of citizenship of those convicted of extremism-related charges and possible confiscation of property, the report findings show.\ufeff<br>\ufeff\ufeff<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities monitor publications by exiled CSOs, activists and bloggers on social media. People with past links to CSOs as well as family members of exiled activists are under a threat of persecution in Belarus, the report stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most relocated Belarusian CSOs continue operating in Lithuania, while others moved to Czechia, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States. About 60 percent of them relocated in 2021 and the process is still ongoing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their activities focus on education (over 70 percent), civil society (62 percent), and human rights (over 58 percent). In the long term, the gap between CSOs and their target groups in&nbsp;Belarus will expand even though Belarusian diaspora or their host countries may become a new focus, the report noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relocation worsened conditions for most CSOs. Issues include staff reduction, higher costs as well as the need to readjust to new circumstances, the report says.<br>\ufeff<br>\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September
