{"id":3136,"date":"2023-09-28T22:23:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T19:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=3136"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"human-rights-groups-reveal-names-of-124-zielcer-case-convicts","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/3136\/","title":{"rendered":"Human rights groups reveal names of 124 &#8220;Zielcer case&#8221; convicts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>September 28,\u00a0<em>Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Belarusian human rights activists have identified\u00a0124 people convicted in the &#8220;Zielcer case,&#8221; most of them sentenced to prison terms for social media posts, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;late September 2021, the Committee for State Security (KGB) reported the death of its officer D\u017amitryj Fiedasiuk, who was fatally wounded during a search for &#8220;terrorists.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrej Zielcer, the IT professional who shot the agent, was killed on the spot. His wife Maryja Uspienskaja, who filmed the shootout with a smartphone, was arrested and later declared a political prisoner by human rights groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities first accused her&nbsp;of murder and complicity, but in June 2022 the Minsk City Court exempted her from criminal liability and sent her for compulsory psychiatric treatment. The court also ordered her to pay 100,000 rubels in moral damages to Fiedasiuk&#8217;s family, to be donated to a Minsk orphanage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the days following the incident, a wave of arrests for posts on social media&nbsp;and messengers swept across Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among others, authorities arrested Hienad\u017a Ma\u017eejka, a journalist with&nbsp;<em>Komsomolskaya Pravda v Belarusi<\/em>, and sentenced him to three years in prison for inciting hatred and insulting a state official for an article that cast Zielcer in a positive light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 28,\u00a0Pozirk.\u00a0Belarusian human rights activists have identified\u00a0124 people convicted in the &#8220;Zielcer case,&#8221; most of them sentenced to prison terms for social media posts, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.
