September 30,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Officials in Kyiv have urged diplomats accredited in Belarus not to participate in a “propaganda tour” to see displaced Ukrainian children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has learned that on October 4, Belarus plans to organize a visit for members of the foreign diplomatic corps accredited in Minsk to the so-called ‘places of residence, education and recuperation’ of Ukrainian children who were brought to Belarus from the cities of Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk, which are temporarily occupied by Russia,” the foreign office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to its statement, the event is aimed at “legalizing the illegal displacement of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.” It stressed that the forcible removal of minors from their country of origin may constitute a war crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also accused Belarusian officials of trying to use foreign diplomats to avoid responsibility. The Ukrainian ministry called on the governments whose diplomats had received these invitations “to refrain from participating in the Belarusian regime’s propaganda tour.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Both through our national investigation and the investigation of the International Criminal Court, we will continue to work to bring to justice all those who have committed crimes against Ukrainian children,” the Ukrainian foreign office stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last summer, Ukraine’s permanent representative to the United Nations told the UN Security Council that more than 3,000 Ukrainian children had been taken to Belarus from the occupied regions of Donbas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka then said that the children were in Belarus to enjoy peace and not hear explosions or see people dying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he was not worried at all that the West might press charges against him. In March, the International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for the alleged war crime of unlawful deportation of children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka said he and Putin had agreed to finance these trips from the Union State budget. “We have been doing it and will continue to do it regardless of any accusations,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM), a Belarusian opposition group led by former Culture Minister Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, prepared a report on the transfers and reportedly submitted “evidence of war crimes” to the ICC, blaming \u0141uka\u0161enka and others for the deportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
