A number of new special tasks will feature for the first time during the active phase of the Combat Brotherhood exercise, the defense ministry&#8217;s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Collective Security Treaty Organization\u2019s (CSTO) drills have started in Belarus on September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tasks include a comprehensive effort to prepare a section of the road for use as runway, said General Andrej Macijevi\u010d in charge of the drills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Radiological, chemical and biological defense units will train to set up quarantine areas, he added stressing the importance of the task in the face of biological threats. &#8220;Specialists of civil higher education institutions are involved in carrying out these tasks along with the military,&#8221; Macijevi\u010d added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Servicemen will also conduct a mock anti-terrorist operation in a populated area, the ministry added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ongoing CSTO drills codenamed Interaction 2023 focus on the resolution of crises in the CSTO&#8217;s Eastern European region. Search 2023 and Echelon 2023 are events for intelligence and military logistics units, respectively, while emergency units participate in Rock 2023 nuclear safety drills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 2,500 servicemen and over 500 units of military equipment are expected to participate in the Combat Brotherhood drills at firing ranges and sites in the Brest, Hrodna and Minsk regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CSTO is a military-political alliance whose declared goals are strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, and protecting the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of its member states. It consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>September 1,\u00a0Pozirk.
