October 2,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The New Belarus initiative and the “people’s embassies” are launching a project to help Belarusian emigres\u00a0who were barred from renewing their passports at the Belarusian diplomatic missions with legalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Everything Will Be Legal project builds on “personal experience” of Belarusians in different countries and plans to “collect in one place all the life hacks, little secrets, personal stories and other useful tips” on how to make the exiled Belarusians’ stay legal, according to the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It covers communities in Poland, Lithuania, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal, and has a mobile app. Work is underway “to launch a chat room for consultations with experts.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusians would be able to get advice on legalization in these countries, share their personal experiences of obtaining documents, and suggest ideas for solving problems. The minimum goal of the project is to “create a useful legalization Wikipedia.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project comes after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka signed an edict on September 4 that stopped Belarusian embassies and consulates from providing passport and notary services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The edict also banned diplomatic missions from helping Belarusians abroad sell or transfer property, such as real estate and cars. Such transactions can only be done by appearing in person in Belarus or by a power of attorney issued in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition, European Union, United States and human rights groups criticized the edict as a violation of the exiled Belarusians’ rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team of opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja is in talks with the EU to ease legalization paperwork for Belarusians in Europe. It is also promoting the concept of alternative passports for Belarusians persecuted in their home country, hoping to launch the process in 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
