October 2,\u00a0Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has asked Natalla Ka\u010danava, chair of the Council of the Republic, for her assistance\u00a0in holding the 2024 elections, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler described the upcoming elections as “a very burning issue,” noting the possible involvement of his administration and the lower chamber of the National Assembly that would be elected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The central election commission needs help since we don’t have established bureaucratic and administrative systems to deal with elections,” \u0141uka\u0161enka told Ka\u010danava. “This issue should be kept under control and you have experience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Minsk has always stood out,” he added, stressing the need to check the authorities’ readiness for the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both parliamentary and local elections in Belarus are scheduled for February 25, 2024. The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is expected to convene within 60 days after the voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 1996, independent internal observers and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe monitors have not recognized a single election in Belarus as free and fair.
