October 1,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>“I am confident that soon contacts between Minsk and Nicosia will be resumed at all levels. Belarus is ready for it,” Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said, congratulating the people of the Republic of Cyprus on their Independence Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the two countries are geographically distant from each other, they are “united by common spiritual values and the desire to build their own states and preserve their sovereignty.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In Belarus, your country is known for its rich history, diverse cultural traditions, hospitable people and picturesque landscapes that attract tourists from all over the world,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that Belarusians “have always been friendly towards Cypriots, sincerely and openly expressing their support for maintaining bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, including business and humanitarian ties.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulating Cyprus on Independence Day a year ago, he expressed hope that the two countries would soon overcome political challenges, and that the friendship between Belarusians and Cypriots would be a solid foundation for dialogue based on trust and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two governments established diplomatic relations in 1992. Cyprus has an honorary consulate in Minsk. Belarus protects the interests of its nationals in Cyprus through the embassy in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyprus is a member of the European Union, which has not recognized \u0141uka\u0161enka as winner of the recent presidential election and has imposed several sanctions packages on his government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
