October 5,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The refusal of diplomats from several countries to meet with Ukrainian children in Belarus “proved\u00a0the politically-motivated and groundless nature of the rumors, suspicions and accusations” that the country was holding them by force, the Belarusian foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those diplomats who did come to Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region, saw first hand that Belarus only had kind intentions and strived to provide the minors from “affected regions” with all kinds of humanitarian assistance, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By organizing the meeting, Belarus “once again demonstrated its openness and transparency in matters pertaining to the stay and recuperation of foreign children,” it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of the city’s executive committee, D\u017amitryj Dziamida\u016d, said<\/a> yesterday that the meeting was attended by diplomats from India, Qatar, China, Mozambique, Pakistan, Syria and other countries, including member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Western diplomats refused to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, over alleged deportations of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian democratic forces are seeking a similar warrant for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka. On September 13, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the ICC to consider such action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies called for the dismissal of D\u017amitryj \u0160a\u016dco\u016d as secretary general of the Belarusian Red Cross. If the BRC does not comply with the demand by November 30, its membership rights would be suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand stems from concerns about \u0160a\u016dco\u016d’s visits to the Russian-occupied Ukrainian cities of Luhansk and Donetsk, his comments about the displacement of Ukrainian children, and related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the ICC to issue an arrest warrant for \u0160a\u016dco\u016d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
