{"id":4138,"date":"2023-09-05T11:52:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-05T08:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=4138"},"modified":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T12:05:06","slug":"belarusian-russian-swimmers-allowed-to-compete-as-neutrals","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/4138\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarusian, Russian swimmers allowed to compete as neutrals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>September 5,\u00a0<em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0The World Aquatics Bureau has announced criteria allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in competitions as neutrals, its press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swimmers from both countries would be allowed to compete in World Aquatics events &#8220;where a time or result is established by the performances of a single athlete,&#8221; it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/structure\/bureau\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The World Aquatics Bureau recognizes the dedication, commitment, and talent of athletes, regardless of their nationality,&#8221; its President Husain Al Musallam stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the start of Russia\u2019s full-scale war on Ukraine in late February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called on the international sports federations not to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete. That call was immediately answered on a mass scale and resulted in the almost complete isolation of Russian and Belarusian athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in late March 2023, the IOC said that Belarusian and Russian athletes might be admitted to international competitions under a neutral flag on condition that they are not actively involved in supporting military operations and are not linked to the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several sports federations followed the IOC recommendation allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as neutrals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late July, the IOC officially invited 203 national committees to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, but would not extend invitations to Belarus, Russia and Guatemala.
