{"id":4163,"date":"2023-10-09T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=4163"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"belarus-sanctions-hit-resort-in-lithuania-lays-off-200-staff-in-two-years","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/4163\/","title":{"rendered":"Belarus&#8217; sanctions-hit resort in Lithuania lays off 200 staff in two years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 9,\u00a0<em>Pozirk<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>The Belarusian-controlled health resort in Lithuania\u2019s Druskininkai kept offering services to Belarusian nationals in 2023, Illa Jepifana\u016d, its chief physician, told\u00a0<em>STV<\/em>\u00a0on October 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resort laid off about 200 staff in the last two years, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, he linked staff reductions to the falling numbers of customers from Belarus as Lithuania restricted entry for Belarusian tourists after the start of Russia&#8217;s war on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020, the European Union froze the resort\u2019s accounts as a part of sanctions against Minsk over allegations of human rights abuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resort resumed operation only after Viktar \u0160ejman, a senior official targeted by the EU\u2019s asset freeze and entry ban, resigned from the Presidential Administration\u2019s property management office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrej Kobel, the resort&#8217;s former chief physician, went on trial in Minsk on August 16.
