The nuclear power plant helped Belarus to reduce gas consumption by up to four billion cubic meters, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov said, noting that Russian exports to Belarus fell by 6.7 percent in January-July as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if raw materials are not counted, Russian exports grew by 2.9 percent to $8.1 billion in the first seven months of 2023, he noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exports of machinery and equipment rose by 18.5 percent and of construction goods by 17.6 percent, the Russian embassy reported citing Gryzlov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rising high-tech exports testify to the countries\u2019 success in mitigating Western sanctions, he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located near Astraviec, Hrodna region, some 10 miles off the Lithuanian border, the Belarusian NPP has been designed by Russia&#8217;s Rosatom and built with a Russian loan. Lithuania views the plant as unsafe and describes it as a &#8220;geopolitical weapon.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unit 1 started pilot operation in November 2020, and commercial operation, in June 2021.
