Andrej Alieksandrovi\u010d, editor in chief of the independent newspaper <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span>, and Julija Kachno, the newspaper\u2019s accountant, were released after questioning by the Committee for State Security (KGB) agents on May 18.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t In the morning of May 18, the KGB arrested Kanstancin Zalatych, editorial director of <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span>, and Kachno, while Alieksandrovi\u010d stopped responding to phone calls.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Zalatych is suspected of inciting hatred. Police have seized his laptop and cell phones.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Founded in 1990, <span>Belorusy i Rynok<\/span> is one of the oldest privately owned newspapers in Belarus, covering economic and political news and published once a month. It is the last independent print media left in the country that covers social and political issues.\n<\/p>\n<p> Zalatych was arrested on the first anniversary of a government crackdown on <span>tut.by<\/span>, Belarus&#8217; largest independent media organization, and nine months after the arrest of Iryna Le\u016d\u0161yna, <span>BelaPAN<\/span>&#8216;s<br \/>\neditor in chief and director, and D\u017amitryj Nava\u017eyla\u016d, its former director, on<br \/>\nAugust 18, 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 19, BPN.
