September 11,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Minsk’s budget had a deficit of 22.6 million rubels ($8.9 million) in the first half of 2023, according to official data. That\u00a0was the result of spending more than the revenues of the capital city, which is usually the richest in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts from Ko\u0161t Urada, a project that analyzes Belarusian finances, said that the deficit was small (0.6 percent of the expenditure), but worrying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk’s budget often had a surplus and transferred funds to the central government, the experts noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drivers of spending were housing and communal services and housing construction, while some revenues  decreased, such as non-tax revenues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finance Minister Juryj Sieliviersta\u016d said earlier that the state budget of 2023 would have a surplus, and that the budget deficit for 2024 would amount to less than 5 billion rubels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
