{"id":4320,"date":"2023-10-11T12:40:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-11T09:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=4320"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"un-working-group-on-arbitrary-detention-says-arrest-of-journalist-losik-unlawful","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/4320\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention says arrest of journalist \u0141osik unlawful"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>October 11,\u00a0<em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0Belarusian authorities violated international human rights law by arresting and jailing journalist Ihar \u0141osik, the Freedom Now rights group reported citing the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a response to a joint appeal by Freedom Now and the international law firm, Dechert LLP, the Working Group linked the reporter\u2019s persecution to his professional activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;\u0141osik\u2019s wrongful detention is indicative of President [Alaksandar] \u0141ukasenka\u2019s continued assault on the freedom of press in Belarus,&#8221; Adam Lhedmat of Freedom Now said. &#8220;Unfortunately, Ihar is just one of many journalists imprisoned in a country which has repeatedly used the judicial system to punish dissent.
